Abstract
This document is a socio-political analysis of Samoan history and contemporary Samoan society. Keeping describes the development and present condition of, and makes recommendations for administrative policy with regard to the Samoan government, judicial system, land tenure system, economy, public health administration, and educational system. The author also includes chapters on contract labor and hybridization in Samoa. Throughout the book sections on Western Samoa and American Samoa alternate with each other. Keesing spent eight months of field work in the two parts of Samoa, ca. 1929.
