By: Spillius, James.

Abstract
In this paper Spillius discusses the social and psychological reactions of the Tikopians to a famine which came as a result of a devastating typhoon. Much of the paper is a discussion of Spillius' experience with 'operational research' when he was forced into a role of political and administrative leadership as a result of the socio-political crisis on Tikopia after the typhoon.
