Abstract
This article, written by a professional anthropologist, presents a comprehensive summary of the Yap monetary system, its possible origin as derived from Yapese traditional history and historical reconstruction, and its valuation and varieties. The paper also presents data on the social function of stone money and on quarrying techniques and methods of transportation from Palau where it was obtained.
