Abstract
A number of anthropological investigations were conducted in Guam and the islands of the Trust Territory in Micronesia from 1947 to 1949 under the auspices of the research group known as the Coordinated Investigation of Micronesia Anthropology (CIMA). This investigative group produced a number of ethnographic studies on the area, one of which constitutes the bulk of material in this source. In this report the author concentrates on two major aspects of Belau ethnography. The first deals with the patterns of power in the society involving the structural power system, political alliances and roles, decision making, and the formation of public opinion. The second, with the social system itself, stressing the role of the various kinship groups in the society, village and district organization, the fraternal societies, and class structure. Permeating all aspects of the ethnographic analaysis above is the concept of status or 'title' which affects every facet of the society
