By: Senft, Gunther.

Abstract
This document is part one of Senft's study of Kilivila, an Austronesian language spoken by approximately 20,600 people living on the Trobriand islands in Milne Bay Province, Papua New Guinea. Part two, a dictionary of the language, is not included. This work begins with a few introductory remarks on the Kilivila language, and then proceeds to a study of phonology and grammar, with emphasis on the latter. The section on grammar concludes with a discussion on style, illustrated by three sample texts, and a syntactic analysis of a Kilivila sentence. The study concludes with the presentation of a brief Kilivila/English and English/Kilivila dictionary.
