Abstract
This source is primarily a consideration of cross-cultural comparisons of the concept of 'work' the author illustrates his theoretical points with some data from his research on Orokaiva. He attempts to demonstrate that Orokaiva differentiate among several types of 'work' according to the ultimate disposition of the 'value' realized from each type, and that among pre-contact Orokaiva 'work' was a religious, not an economic category.
