Abstract
This article discusses the relation of clan land ownership and the rules of descent and inheritance to the eight class kinship system and its regulation of marriage. Pink asserts that the inheritance of clan lands or 'totem estates' and the ritual that goes with it, is one of the strongest means by which traditional kin relationships and totemic ceremonies are kept alive.
