Abstract
This is the presentation of a Mescalero myth describing the birth of the culture hero, Child-of-the-Water, and his slaying of the monsters who were preventing the spread of human beings. This myth is wide-spread among Apachean speakers and Opler's purpose in publishing it was to facilitate comparative work (p. 215).
