Abstract
This paper provides an overview of contemporary non-ceremonial uses of traditional Navajo religion and knowledge. The author is employed by the Navajo Tribe, Division of Health. Non-ceremonial uses of traditional religious concepts primarily relate to Navajo and non-Navajo use of these concepts to evoke support and engender group consciousness. Examples include motivation of political support, reaction to the introduction of Western health care, and resistance to mining or utilization of Navajo mineral resources.
