Abstract
This source presents an ethnobotanical listing of various plants known and used by the Navajo in the Arizona-New Mexico area. The samples used were herbarium specimens from Keams Canyon, Arizona -- part of an exhibit used in a courtroom hearing involving a Hopi-Navajo boundary dispute. The specimens were identified separately by two Navajos -- Scott Preston and Clyde Peshlakai -- and their results compared for reliability. The list, arranged in alphabetical order, contains eighty-nine items -- a small sample of the total flora growing in the region -- but it does contain much useful information on a number of native pharmaceuticals, drugs, foods, animal forage crops, and dye-stuffs.
