Abstract
This paper, based heavily on taped conversations with Mrs. Lowana Brantner, the quintessence of Yurok aristocracy, presents an overview of Yurok traditional society as seen through the eyes of an aristocrat. Data presented here deal with the 'great houses' of the aristocracy, including their construction, ceremonies, distribution, occupants (e.g., priests), articles of production (e.g., basketry), and special speech patterns.
