Algonquian (Fox): an illustrative sketch

handbook of american indian languages (1) • Published In 1911 • Pages: 735-873

By: Jones, William, Michelson, Truman.

Abstract
This source provides an excellent analytical sketch of Fox grammar and phonetics written by Dr. William Jones in 1904. It was originally the intention of the author to further revise his manuscript on the basis of the knowledge he obtained from the study of Ojibwa, a related Algonquian language, but because of the pressure of other duties, this was never realized. Later, Dr. Truman Michelson, using Jones' published Fox texts, attempted to revise some of the essential features of the grammar by the comparative analysis of statements made in the grammar with the material contained in the volume of texts. The general arrangement of the linguistic material as presented by Jones in the original manuscript has been retained, although Michelson's notes will be found scattered throughout the text, supplementing information or modifying doubtful points. A detailed analysis of examples, as well as, the native text printed at the end of the article have been added by Michelson.
