Abstract
This is the personal narrative of Nelson Lee, an ex-Texas Ranger, who spent three years as a captive of the Comanches in 1855-1858. The book was put into its present form by an unknown editor, since Lee could not write. Much of the book deals with Lee's personal experiences illustrating the Comanche methods of dealing with war captives. Prominent in the account are his impressions of ceremonial, diet, settlement pattern, and methods of settling quarrels. The book is invaluable for its information on how the Comanches lived before they were affected by any large degree of acculturation.
