Abstract
This article presents a detailed biographical sketch of William Sturtevant's principal informant, Josie Billie, during the author's fieldwork among the Seminoles of southern Florida from 1950-1952. The text describes Billie's life history, his relationship with the author, and his role in Seminole society as a shaman/curer and pastor in the Christian church.
