Abstract
This document provides a broad survey of the magic of the Oklahoma Cherokees. The introductory discussion provides a background on the general magical concepts of the Cherokee. Subsequent chapters cover the various kinds of magic, including hunting, rain, household, travel, love, luck and war magic. Sorcery(black magic and witchcraft) is also discussed. Many of the magical texts which are to be sung are accompanied by musical scores. Very often the authors offer commentary and analysis of the incantations. This often leads to relevant discussions of Cherokee myth and symbolism. Although the analyses seem somewhat superficial and impressionistic, little more can be fairly expected of such a broad, comprehensive survey of the whole of Cherokee magic.
