Abstract
This paper describes and analyzes the demographic characteristics of the Cuban population living in the United States. The work is divided into two major divisions. The first part compares Cuban Americans in 1980 and 1990 with other Hispanic groups, and in addition, contrasts the characteristics of Cuban Americans in 1980 with those in 1990 to determine the changes that have taken place in the decade of the 1980s. Part two compares the socioeconomic status of Cuban Americans with those of other American and immigrant racial groups (e.g., blacks, non-Hispanic whites, and Asians) on such variables as occupation, education, income, and English language skills. Boswell believes that through these comparisons, a perspective is provided for understanding the demographic context in which Cubans are living in the United States (p. 4).
