Abstract
This source compares some of the religious beliefs and practices of the bands of the East Coast of James Bay (i.e., Rupert House, Eastmain, and Fort George) with those of neighboring Cree and Naskapi. The author compares her own field data for the East Coast groups with published data on other Algonquian groups, and the topics covered include the belief in a supreme deity, beliefs in spirits and souls, and the practice of divination. She concludes that the East coast groups share more beliefs with the Naskapi than with the Cree. The researcher will have to make his own decisions about the reliability of the data.
