Abstract
This document is a historical reconstruction of Montagnais ethnography as it existed in the period of 1600-1640, beginning with the first French settlements in Canada and ending with the outbreak of the Iroquois wars. The data presented in this document apply to the Montagnais living in the vicinity of the French settlements of Tadoussac, Quebec and Three Rivers. In addition to the ethnographic information presented here, there are also numerous bits of data on missionary-Indian relations at this early time period.
