Abstract
The Khionontateronon were neighbors of and culturally indistinct from the Huron, their major trading partner, and were closely allied with the Algonquin-speaking Ottawa. They specialized in growing tobacco and were therefore also known as the Petun (Tobacco) nation. Following their defeat by the Iroquois, remnant groups of Khionontateronon and Huron united, becoming known as the Wyandot.
