Abstract
The material of this report was collected by the author during the summer of 1960, while under contract to the Northern Co-ordination and Research Centre of the Canadian government. This is a community study of the village of Snowdrift in the Mackenzie River-Great Slave Lake area. Although general background information is presented on the geography of the area, the physical and cultural aspects of the community itself, and its history, the major orientation of the source is on the economy of Snowdrift. VanStone describes the annual cycle in terms of activities involved in hunting and trapping, fishing (both commercial and non-commercial), trade, and various forms of employment available to the population of the community. In addition, government assistance programs are discussed to some extent, as well as the future economic development potentials of the village.
