Abstract
This is an historical study of the settlement of immigrant Italians in British Columbia and their employment in mines and as construction laborers on the Canadian Pacific Railway from approximately the 1840s to 1930. Scardellato describes the various settlements that sprang up throughout the area as many immigrants followed the routes of construction of the CPR. The author also notes the particular characteristics of the Italian Canadian settlements in Vancouver.
