Abstract
This study describes the harsh industrial working conditions that the Italian immigrants faced in the Canadian cities of Fort William and Port Arthur (Thunder Bay) in the early years of the twentieth century. These conditions led to increased militancy among the Italian laborers and resulted in a series of strikes accompanied in most cases by violence. The author believes that this militancy '…played a key role in the shaping of industrial relations during the decade from 1902 to 1912' (p. 183).
