Abstract
This consists primarily of original data gathered by the authors, one of whom resided for three years in the government house at Sitka. Data are given on village life, warfare, potlatches, witchcraft and shamanism, and folk-lore. Particularly good descriptions are given throughout the work of the various aspects of the life cycle: birth and child care, puberty, marriage ceremonies, and funerals. The book is valuable for its continuity, and for the descriptive details that help to fill out the sometimes stark descriptions contained in the writings of others on the Tlingit.
