Abstract
Despite the phenomenal growth of the Korean population in the United States and intense interest in studying this immigrant group, there has been relatively little information on the immigrant Korean families themselves. Hong attempts to rectify this situation to some extent by presenting in this paper a detailed study of the Korean American family in Los Angeles, California. Based on the results of questionnaires given to a random sample, the author presents his data on the family in two parts. Part 1 describes the characteristics of Korean families in terms of economic status, marital status, family size, household composition, family life cycle, and the conjugal power structure. Part 2 deals with marital satisfaction in which the degree of happiness or lack thereof between husband and wife is discussed. Marital satisfaction is then evaluated in terms of a number of selected characteristics such as family life cycle, income, conjugal power structure, mutualization (the sharing of similar interests and activities between husband and wife), and social activities (p. 104).
