Abstract
This is an historical account of the Italian Americans in Tampa, Florida from the sixteenth century, when Italians served on Spanish exploratory expeditions, to approximately the mid twentieth century. The major time focus, however, is on the nineteenth to early twentieth centuries. Pizzo describes the early Italian migrations to Tampa, outstanding Italian American entrepreneurs, Italian American business enterprises (e.g., vegetable farms, vineyards, groceries, commercial fisheries, dairying, cigar manufacture), the mutual benefit societies, and politics.
