Settlement of violence in Bedouin society

Abstract
This article discusses peace building and conflict management practices among the Bedouins of Jezirah, northeast Syria. Himself a native Bedouin professional Anthropologist, the author uses two cases of homicide involving his own family to show how community and tribal leaders achieve peace, or instances of it, by mobilizing a wide variety of indigenous legal norms, religious symbols and kinship rules. In doing so, the author also argues against long held stereotypes which paint the Bedouins as war-like, hostile and conflict prone.
