Abstract
This book is a collection of previously published articles on a variety of subjects. Beeman's major research focus is on interpersonal behavior and language use (see document no. 79), which some of the articles here address. The book is divided into three sections. The first section provides theoretical background. The second section discusses different kinds of musical and dramatic performances, including the famous Shi'a passion drama of Ta'ziyeh. The third section interprets the Iranian Revolution (1978-1978) in terms of performance and attributes much of its success to the ability of the Imans to manipulate religious symbols in the resistance against the Shah and the United States.
