Abstract
This source was considered the outstanding one-volume survey of Persian art, both for its scope and for the brilliance of the authors analysis of Persian artistic achievement. The emergence and development of various art forms are discussed in their historical contexts, and while sociological aspects of Persian art are not dealt with in any detail, occasional references are made to craft organizations, status of artisans, etc. Arthur Upham Pope is the editor of the six volume study: A Survey of Persian Art from Prehistoric Times to the Present. London and New York, Oxford University Press, 1938-1939, which is considered the most comprehensive study of Persian art ever published. He has also written several other books and numerous articles.
