Abstract
Upon the basis of a lifetime residence in the former Palestine, the author discusses one phase of demonology, that of haunted springs and water demons. The objective of the article is to answer how this belief in demonology is so well established in mythology and superstition. The author defines the various types of spirits, their location, habits and power. The popular beliefs and rationale held by both Moslems and Christians about these spirits and their habitations, theories as to disease and its cure, the propitiation of spirits, an enumeration of the inhabited springs in the area, and other subjects are discussed in detail.
