Abstract
This analysis of changes in fertility patterns in Jamaica utilizing data from the 1943, 1960, and 1970 censuses provides some historical background on migration, mortality, fertility, and population growth, but gives little contemporary socio-cultural context. Fertility rates are discussed, with reference to age cohorts, family type, and family planning efforts. The author finds that, despite family planning programs, the rate of population growth in Jamaica has remained high, except for one parish where efforts have been most concentrated.
