Abstract
In this article, Cosminsky and Whipple look at ethnic relations in an ethnically mixed Belize town. First they examine ethnic identity and stereotypes, in terms of occupations, language, and relgion. They find that ethnic and economic stratification coincide. Although ethnic tensions exist, ethnic conflict is rare. Next they look at intermarriage and marital patterns and discover interethnic mating in spite of an ideal of endogamy held by all groups, and discuss some of the reasons why this is so.
