Abstract
This document provides a broad range of introductory material on the Zapotec. The author, a professional anthropologist, draws on both field experience and documentary documents to outline the available data on subsistence activities, material culture, family and social structure, ceremonial life, and belief systems. Attention is give to the considerable variation that exists among sub-populations of Zapotec-speakers, and to informing the reader of other authors' work in the area. The full citations for the 'references' on pp. 358-359 have been retyped by HRAF and paginated as pp. 359-C through 359-P.
