A study in culture persistence: the Tarahumaras of northwestern Mexico

Abstract
This study of the Tarahumara Indians is concerned with the persistence of the cultural patterns of the Tarahumara during the past 300 years. Their resistence to change occurred in the face of strong external pressures for acculturation. Champion analyzes and finds inadequate the prevailing anthropological hypotheses concerning the nature of culture change and culture persistence.
