Abstract
This is a study of the ecological relationship between the Tarahumara and their environment. Although subject coverage in this work is limited to geography and material culture, these topics are covered thoroughly. The documentary materials incorporated into this study were the civil, military and religious Jesuit records of the 17th and 18th centuries. The data gleaned from these records combined with the information provided by archaeological reports in existence on this area form a well-integrated text adding historical perspective and depth to Pennington's data.
