Abstract
This is a study of long-run capital accumulation in a Mondragon-type cooperative and a discussion of the theoretical possibilities for the future development of the cooperative economic system as a means of reproducing itself '…on a larger scale under various economic conditions, and scenarios of membership turnover' (p. 9). The first chapter presents the historical background on the formation of the Mondragon cooperatives. Chapter two takes up the question of how the cooperative enterprises respond to changing political and economic circumstances over a period of time that is divided into four historical phases. In the third chapter of this source various economic theories are discussed as applied to the producer cooperative in general, with particular reference to the Mondragon cooperative institutions. Chapter four is a study of capital accumulation in the cooperatives. Chapter five is largely theoretical and uses models to study a number of corollary implications regarding cooperative development. The sixth and last chapter of this work provides a useful summary of the key points of the author's study.
