Abstract
This monograph is an exploration of the needs of the elderly population of the Isle of Skye in the Inner Hebrides. The author examines the social networks of the elderly in terms of their residence patterns, the number and proximity of their kin, their knowledge of available socio-medical services, and the influence of emigration and urbanization of the nature of these networks. Throughout the monograph, Lowenberg discusses her findings with respect to their implications for social planning to meet the needs of the elderly in Scotland.
