By: Finnur Magnússon.

Abstract
In this document Magnússon presents an historical analysis of the ideology of work as it existed in the villages of Eyrarbakki and Stokkseyri on the southern coast of Iceland during the period of 1880 to 1940. Emphasis in this work is on the landless working class, their poverty, the jobs that were available to them as tenant farmers and fishermen, and their concepts of the value and dignity of such work. In these pages the author paints a vivid picture of what life was like for the Icelandic fisherman.
