Abstract
This is a general description of the Saami based on fieldwork and an survey of the earlier records. The monograph combines both historical and functional viewpoints and focuses on subsistence activities and religion. The topics discussed include language, race, national character, subsistence, clothing, dwellings, life cycle, religion, the arts, and food and drink. The concluding chapter treats of ancient and modern opinions of the Saami with a discussion of various authors.
