Abstract
This article describes the characteristics of the kindred system as it functions in a community of Greek Sarakatsani shepherds in the mountains of the Zagori district of Greece. In the text Campbell discusses three important features of this kinship unit: (1) its bilateral structure; (2) the definition of its limits: and (3) marriage regulations associated with the kindred.
