Abstract
This is a general though somewhat sparse account of life in Serbia in the early 1860's when Serbian culture still retained a somewhat heavy Middle Eastern overlay. Besides being one of the few descriptions of Serbian life in English for this period it also contains much good material on agriculture, churches, monastic life, foods, transportation and material culture.
