Abstract
This paper describes one ritual from the large unpublished Russian manuscript on religious beliefs and ceremonies of the Yakuts. According to an introductory footnote, all the speeches and incantations in the original manuscript, for which we have no more information, are accompanied by the Yakut text. It has been impossible to determine the amount of field work and the field dates, if there are any, of this work. The article itself gives a very complete and detailed account of the ritual of consecration for a blacksmith novice among the Yakut, and excellent information on the prestige accompanying the position of blacksmith and shaman and the relationship between the two. Accompanying the article in the footnotes and in an introductory bibliographical footnote are references to sources for the study of Yakut tales and lore and of Yakut shamanism.
