Abstract
This book describes aspects of traditional Armenian village life based on interviews with refugees from Ottoman massacres in Western Armenia (eastern Turkey). A major theme is the centrality of Christianity in shaping the social organization of village communities, marriage practices, perceptions of nature, and changes in fortune, including the occurrence of illness and death. Other topics covered include daily routines of families, child rearing practices, and organized ceremonials.
