Abstract
This presents an inquiry into traditional Tobelo environmental knowledge and cultural practices contributing to the sound management of forest resources. Practices discussed include the norm of marking births and deaths by planting trees, and the placing magical charms believed to harm those making unauthorized use of forests belonging to the community. The authors encourage incorporating such proven strategies into modern forest management policy.
