In this source the author addresses the purpose of this
paper (“to describe the kinship system of the Javanese” p.1) by identifying the significant
ties of descent, nuclear family, kinship, and neighborhood as they are manifested in
various life cycles and ceremonials. The stages of infancy, childhood, adolescence and
adulthood are discussed with an emphasis on kin behavior and kin terminology. His data are
derived primarily from his own knowledge and memory.A glossary is included.
