Philippine pagans: the autobiographies of three Ifugaos

George Routledge & SonsLondon • Published In 1938 • Pages:

By: Barton, Roy Franklin.

Abstract
Barton has here compiled a book that, while not organized like the usual ethnography, is nevertheless very useful, for it is organized by his three informants and thus presented according to Ifugao ideas rather than our own. Digressions in these autobiographies are frequent and include discussions of headhunting, divination, sexual behavior, marriage and childhood activities. Much inferential information on the Ifugao value system is also included. The author's introduction gives a general outline of Ifugao culture, emphasizing its social rather than material aspects.
