Abstract
This document discusses the changing roles of women in Bengali society from traditional times to the late 1960s. Some of the key factors bringing about these changes are the opening up of education and the professions to women and the effects of westernization on them through travel and the news media (magazines, television). Roy explores each of these factors in detail in this study.
