Abstract
In Bangladesh the rural court system is considered to be a 'functional entity' and a custodian of rural political culture. It functions to resolve any conflict that may appear as a challenge to the authority or as a confrontation or interpersonal hostility (p. 177). This article tries to show how traditional mechanisms of control are reinforced through the rural courts. The authors also note that the administration of justice is often influenced by class status in the society.
