The golden road to modernity: village life in contemporary Burma

WileyNew York • Published In 1965 • Pages:

By: Nash, Manning.

Abstract
This monograph focuses on two villages of Upper Burma: Nondwin and Yadaw. It identifies the sources of susceptibility and resistance to social change in a newly developing nation and points out the range of opportunities that appear to the ordinary villager in a modernizing society. Although the description and analysis is mainly confined to the two villages in which Nash lived and worked, it is intended to stand for all the villages of Upper Burma as models of the 'dry zone', the heartland of traditional Burmese society and culture.
