Abstract
This article studies changes in child rearing practices in the village of Banoi as a result of broad social and economic changes. The document includes a brief summary of child rearing practices in the 1960's, a discussion of personality consequences as results of these practices, identification of changes in child rearing practices, and implications of these changes. Piker concludes that child rearing practices have changed little, mandatory public education and the consequent demise of the wat boy status will have implications for the personality development of boys, and the advent of mothers working will have an affect on infant care and sibling relationships.
