Abstract
This article presents information on sociocultural change in the village of Ban Qi. Piker presents data on the historical background to modernization, the traditional rural equilibrium in the central plain, and the village of Ban Qi in the twentieth century. The conclusion is that traditional kin-oriented social relationships have been replaced by non-kin relationships as a result of economic change.
